October+2015

Hello all,

Happy October! As a new school year comes, so do new pieces from your favorite Holyoke High news source. The Herald is back and we are looking to be better than ever. The editor’s note is a new addition for our site, and will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the great things The Herald has coming your way.

I am Melanie Kos, and I am this year’s editor in chief for The Herald. We have three new editors as well; Sara Morin for news, Matt Antil for features, and Hanna Smith for sports. Our head photographer Nick Elkins returns for his second year, be sure to look out for him during the Holyoke High open house on October 8.

Our public relations staff (Summer Kaeppel, Nathan Yee, and Lindsey Martins) are the people behind our Twitter and Instagram accounts. Be sure to follow both at @hhsherald on Twitter and @HolyokeHighHerald on Instagram for live game tweeting and a peek at the Herald staffers working hard. Like us on Facebook at “The Holyoke High Herald” for all new article updates.

The Herald is also looking for your submissions, so feel free to send us your photos of the great things going on at the high school. Email us at holyokehighpaper@gmail.com or mention us on Twitter.

Honor Roll Live is one event to look out for, with Brittney Decker and the Western Mass News crew coming in bright and early to Holyoke High School on October 9. Tune in to see The Herald as well as the other programs Holyoke High has to offer.

Looking at our site, you may have noticed a new header. One of our new staff members is to credit with that- a special shout out to Catherine Pater for her amazing work.

With the October launch, we already have some great articles. Read about our new receiver, Dr. Steve Zrike here, written by yours truly. One of our new staffers Maeghan Desmarais highlights the first week of varsity girls soccer here. Have you seen ghosts haunting Holyoke’s lawns? Siobhan Brennan explains the phenomenon here.

Last but not least, our staffers Summer Kaeppel and Alex Glanville sit down with Holyoke mayor Alex Morse in the Town Crier– The Herald’s very own podcast! Listen to the interview here, and tune in as other mayoral candidate Fran O’Connell is interviewed next.

That’s all for now,

Melanie
