The team holds their practices at the Holyoke Boat House, a facility shared by multiple schools.

This year, the rowing team will once again take to the waters at the Holyoke Boathouse. Practices will begin March sixth and will take place after school. Rowing (also called crew) is a sport where several athletes row a boat in rivers in races that are called rigatas.

“Crew really changed my life, it’s allowed me to meet some incredible people and see some pretty cool things,” said veteran rower Kane ‘18. “It really is more than just rowing.”

Yet again the rowing team will be coached by Stephanie Moore. She has coached this crew for fourteen years. The team captain this year is Kevin Higgins, who is looking forward to leading his crew to a great year.

“We’ve had some great crews in the past but I think we have the potential to do some great things this year,” said Higgins ’17. “We have a lot of rowers returning, so I think that we’re really going to have a great season.”

The boathouse is shared by many different schools. Some of them include Holyoke High, Suffield Academy, The Macduffie School, and Northampton High School.

“We get a lot of kids from other schools, so we have a lot of fun here at the boathouse,” said Kane ‘18.

The first rigatas will be held on May sixth and will take place in Saratoga. The rowing team will be taking on many different teams in this tournament, so wish them luck as they start their season off strong at Saratoga!
