Chess Club Recruits Underclassmen
The chess club is need of new members and welcomes all interested students to attend a meeting after school on Mondays in room 318.
Holyoke High School has brought back the Chess club! After disappearing for two years, a few students took the initiative to start the club up once again. But we need more people to join the club to continue this program for years to come.
“You don’t need to know how to play chess to come,” says Patrick Morrison ‘18, the new founder of the Chess club.
Members of the club are either experienced or open to the new opportunity of learning how to play this invigorating game. This club is a worry-free zone and members will be happy to show other students the rules of chess. Patrick also wants to let Holyoke know he is still undefeated by any teacher in Holyoke High! Everyone is welcome to try and beat him.
It is extremely important that more underclassmen join the club. The chess club consists of about 12 members, but all are seniors. By next year, the chess club will disappear once again if underclassmen don’t continue the club, which will be a loss for Holyoke High School’s extracurriculars.
The group of seniors are eager for more students to join and will happily teach newcomers how to play.
“It’s a good activity to get involved in the school and meet new people,” said Abner Aldorando ‘18.
If more underclassmen join, there could also be a bigger chance of the club getting to go to local competitions, which is an extremely good opportunity to earn awards for yourself and the school.
We hope to see more students join this club and continue its legacy. Chess club takes place on Monday’s after school until 3:45 in room 318.
“It’s more fun than you might think,” said founder Pat Morrison ’18. Students who attend are welcome to bring food and snacks. Please help the senior chess club members continue the club for many more years to come!
