Copendogen: A Failed Venture

One Herald reporter’s Copendogen experience reveals why it didn’t last in the Holyoke Mall food court.

Last spring, the Holyoke Mall made some questionable changes to its downstairs food court. Once such change was replacing the beloved Wendy’s with a new Danish hot dog place called Copendogen.

When I visited the restaurant to review it I noticed not a single person working but there was a sign that said, “Be back in 10.”

After waiting about 10 minutes, I was not very pleased when the worker got back, although I was pleasantly surprised when he started talking to me and was so enthusiastic about the food.

I ordered a regular old hot dog and a drink. The meal was decently priced, which I enjoyed, but the hot dog was mediocre at best and the mustard had an odd seasoning which I did not particularly enjoy. The food at Copendogen isn’t like your everyday American hot dog place, which is why it attracts such a small audience. This has proven to be a poor decision by the mall because Copendogen has already gone out of business and will soon be replaced by a new restaurant.

I believe in order to make the food court a more enjoyable place for all mall goers they need a more mainstream restaurant to replace it. Clearly, Copendogen was not the right choice.
