Wrestling unable to hold season, other HHS athletes remain hopeful sports can resume in 2020-21

Many athletes are still wondering if they will be able to participate in their sports. Masslive has reported the conditions of some sports and their ability for competition. With Massachusetts going back to being a “red state” for COVID-19, cancellations are a possibility.

Masslive has reported a brief update that high school sports such as “basketball and hockey can participate in competitions, wrestling cannot per latest state guidance”.

As for Holyoke High School teams, the start date of the basketball season has been pushed back, and the MIAA cancelled winter sports tournaments.  That announcement was made back in October, but students remain hopeful that as much of a season as possible can be played safely.

As of right now, The Herald is paying very close attention to all news pertaining delays, cancellations, or any changes. The inability to perfectly predict the widespread of coronavirus will call for a stand still in sports right now. We hope to bring you the latest news for Holyoke High sports as it becomes available from the school, district, MIAA and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
