In Oregon, a carjacker returned a child to their mother after realizing they were in the backseat of the car he was stealing. The thief scolded the mother for leaving her child in the car and even threatened to call the police on her before driving off in the car he stole. Police are still looking for the car thief.

The theft took place outside of a grocery store in Beaverton, Oregon on Saturday. When the mother left the car unlocked with her four year old child still in the car to get some groceries, the thief happened to be walking by and hopped into the car, soon realizing that the four year old was in the car. They u-turned, returning the child. He then told her to take better care of her kid, then drove off in her car.

“He actually lectured the mother for leaving the child the car and threatened to call the police on her,” Beaverton police spokesman Matt Henderson told the Oregonian. The thief demanded that the mother take her child back and then drove off “Obviously we’re thankful he brought the little one back and he had the decency to do that,” Henderson said.
