Sports Betting is Now Legal in Massachusetts
April 12, 2023
Sports betting has exploded across the country, and is now legal in Massachusetts. With the 2023 baseball season officially underway, many people are excited to have a good time, get a bite to eat, and bet on the game. Bob Westerfield, vice president of casino operations at MGM Springfield, hopes this first year of people betting on professional baseball games Massachusetts will be a grand slam. His advice for all gamblers: have fun and be responsible.
Westerfield believes this opportunity will create a positive impact, both for baseball lovers and the casino. He said that MGM Springfield has booked over $1,000,000 in bets since the in-person activity became legal in the Commonwealth earlier this year, adding that wagers have already been made on who will win the pennants and World Series.
The 2023 Opening Day ceremony at Fenway Park consisted of a flyover. This year’s included two F-15C’s from the 104th Fighter Wing flown out of Westfield, Massachusetts and two F-35A’s from the 158th Fighter Wing flown out of Burlington, Vermont. The national anthem was performed by award-winning recording artist and Springfield native Michelle Brooks-Thompson.
In March, MGM Casino in Springfield launched a new app for Massachusetts residents. It gives access to a variety of online betting options and benefits linked with MGM Resorts’ nationwide, including MGM Springfield. BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt discussed his excitement for the new app, saying, “The debut of sports betting in Massachusetts has delivered an incredible amount of excitement and activity to our retail Sportsbook at MGM Springfield.” According to a recent article on prnewswire.com, the app offers a “user-friendly sports betting platform experience, giving Massachusetts sports fans the ability to customize pre-game, live in-play, futures and parlay wagers.”
In January, a social application partnered with MGM to produce a platform that allows gamblers to bet online. If interested, you can look for BetMGM Sports on your mobile device or any electronic device capable of supporting the application. The source aforementioned highlights that “the space features a 45-foot LED viewing wall and four betting windows, making it accessible for guests to access a variety of sports wagering options. The resort features 18 sports betting kiosks conveniently located throughout the gaming area.” ….
“From Boston to Amherst, fans can now be a part of the excitement with just a touch of the button that only BetMGM and MGM Springfield can deliver,” Chris Kelley, president of MGM Springfield said.
With the beginning of the baseball season, and the new application from MGM, BetMGM has now been named an Official Sports Betting Partner of the Boston Red Sox. Along with the partnership, the BetMGM logo will be showcased on the Green Monster located on Fenway Park’s left field wall, for the 2023 season.
BetMGM is proud to provide resources to help customers play responsibly. The new exciting app complements BetMGM’s already existing responsible gambling tools which serve to provide customers with an entertaining and safe digital experience. BetMGM and MGM Resorts have also joined the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) in promoting Problem Gambling Awareness Month throughout March. Hopefully the baseball season will bring in great revenue for MGM’s new program.
