This year, the people of Holyoke got a plethora of newly hired teachers which were multilingual. And for us, the time of the year is here to celebrate these teachers, but also people within our community, adults and youth alike, who’re multilingual!

Every year on September 30th, is a very important day for all multilingual people, as its national translations day! Holyoke Public School’s made a team of 6 very talented “Language Access Professionals” To ensure the help and highest quality of anyone who is multilingual. These hard workers work with both the children and the family to provide high amounts of support to them. WIth this, they plan to work behind the scenes to ensure they learn to the best of their abilities and hopefully work with families so they can be more familiar language better and get past perhaps a language barrier.

As said from the HPS translator Sharina De Leon Bermudez, “My job is to eliminate the communication barriers so that our students and their families feel informed, important and heard!” (Video)

Containing the list of all our multilingual professors consisting of the following:  Diego Acosta, Sharina De León Bermúdez, Raylis Escobar, Marilyn Ramos, and last but not least, Sarah Sierra Larrañaga!

These translators, teachers, and helpful professors want the best for any multilingual student. Similar to them, Holyoke wants the best for any multilingual citizen, and everyone else! There is more to know about these, so the Holyoke Public Schools decided to create a video for it. (Link) 

Holyoke schools also showed some love for translation day! By providing a space for them and multilingual teachers can work together to provide and help become even better at learning languages. And they hope that every year that this gets celebrated, the more they can help families, and show love to every multilingual person.

In journalism, translation is also fully able to make a big change, and help people who might not understand articles understand them! What we use it for is to share stories with everyone, and we do this by making sure it’s readable for any and everyone in the Holyoke area. In the Herald our number 1 goal is to make sure everyone can read the newest news of the school district. We’re hopefully able to share that and show love and support to everyone who might be multilingual.
