Kyra Lipman and Leilany “Leila” Sanchez are an iconic duo at Holyoke High. The two sophomores are iconic icons for Holyoke High School’s girls soccer team. This season was an incredible season for both of them. Lipman ended the season off with 47 goals and 27 assists. Sanchez ended the season off with 12 goals and 7 assists.
Lipman and Sanchez utilized their communication skills and critical thinking, allowing them to come up with plays for the team on the spot. Through honing their skills, it allowed them to build a deeper connection on and off the field. Throughout the games Lipman and Sanchez used their chemistry to their advantage in order to lead their team to victory.
“I couldn’t have done it without her. Every cross I rely on her and she relies on me. I don’t think anyone could match our striker duo and I know i wouldnt replace her with anyone. She is my rock on offense and we impact each other every game, every practice. I love her and can’t wait for her journey throughout life. My Piggy for life!” said Lipman.
“For future players I would say you should be open minded to people’s backgrounds, and what makes them who they are. Understanding a person for more than just a teammate. Simple acts of kindness like with rides, giving snacks when hungry, never having a jealous mind, and realizing your teammates success like its your own.” said Leila
Many teammates would describe Kyra and Leila as very respectful to players on the field, showing the Knight spirit via their good sportsmanship, confidence, using their skills and making smart decisions on the field.
“I find that Kyra and Leila have a good connection on the field because off the field they’re friends and have respect for eachother. That brings that respect onto the field. They work together, showing each other new skills and being able to hype each other up before, after or even the middle of the game, giving them both confidence to work together on the field.” said Soccer player Selina Alicea.
In essence, this season for the Holyoke High Girls Soccer team brought the energy needed for the games by always trying their best and showing that it’s not about winning all the time, but about how you can connect with someone through a sport.
