Op/Ed: Can Trump Trump Others For Presidency?
Dominique Evans looks at the polarizing figure of Donald Trump.
On June 16th, 2015 Donald Trump announced his running for candidacy for the 2016 Presidential election. Many were surprised by Trump’s decision to run for president mostly because Trump was never a “government man.”
“I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created,” he claimed. Is that President Trump talking or CEO Trump? Many debates on whether Trump would make a good president or not center around his “business man” attitude and his wealthy past. “Trump needs to stick with what he’s good at which is being a business man,” said HHS Choir Director Mr. Todd. “He needs to pull his act together and it’s strange that he is even running for president if he has never held an office position.”
Could Trump’s business experience make him the right man to be in The White House? Let’s talk about his vision for our future.
As well as Donald Trump’s announcement on his running for president, he also clued us in on his idea for containing illegal immigrants that come into the United States, and more specifically: Mexicans. When they asked him what he meant by “containing illegal immigrants,” his attempts to explain himself just made him sound worse. “What can be simpler or more accurately stated? The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc,” said Trump.
Is he claiming that the Mexican government are forcing Mexican criminals into our country? After an uproar of angry Latinos bashed Trump for his rude comments, Trump tried to make up for his offensive remarks by saying, “I am proud to say that I know many hard working Mexicans-many of them are working for me and with me…and, just like our country, my organization is better for it.” This statement did not help him in proving his non bias attitude toward Mexicans.
Licelys Mora ’16 thinks Trump is “racist, irresponsible, demeaning, and has the qualities of a dictator.” Mr. Todd echoes her sentiments. Todd thinks Trump “has alienated so many people already imagine is he goes into office. He tells people they are incompetent but expects them to love him.”
As more debates pass, Trump loses supporters faster than his rivals, with even GOP campaign strategist Alex Castellanos saying, “I am a friend and admirer of Donald Trump, but he’s not suited to be president, and he will not be president.” It is safe to say Trump NOT be trumping the others for presidency and will stay in the business of businessing.
