With outstandingly catchy choruses and soothing melodies, One Direction’s fifth album “Made in the AM” surely is not to be missed. Including the hit singles “Drag Me Down,” “Perfect,” and “Infinity,” the album overall is best described as a bright jolt of energy that gets a party started before fading out, as the first four songs start off really up upbeat before the album mellows out. “There’s a song for everyone,” says HHS student Kiara Nazario ‘17, “and even if it’s not your type of music you dig it.”
It kicks off with a misleading symphonic vibe that quickly breaks out into the pop rock lyrics of “Hey Angel.” While listening to “If I Could Fly” fans of The Beatles will get bombarded with feelings of nostalgia as its melody resembles that of ‘Hey Jude.’
“Olivia” is a fun song and one just can’t help but sing and clap along to the fresh and fun beat. This is the second time One Direction has sung about an unknown girl – last time it was “Diana” – who are these people?
There’s nothing like “Love You Goodbye” and “Walking in the Wind” to bring back memories of past relationships or lovers who you still hold dear to your heart with their soft instrumental chords leading to upbeat dips and buzzes.
Ending with “AM” resembling the tittle, the song takes a more slow tone with acoustic guitar chords to close it off.
But the most impressive thing about Made In the AM has to be the more mature style the guys take on; clearly different than previous albums. “They’re trying out different sounds,” says fan Kiara Nazario, “and it’s nice to experience something new and see that transition.” The group is experimenting with a range of different musical styles, and fans are not to be disappointed. The new changes can be seen as a chance to experience something new, other than the accustomed pop songs they’re used to. There’s literally a song for everyone.
With the group down to just four members instead of the original five, there’s no denying that Liam, Harry, Niall, and Louis is still at the prime of their careers.
