HPD, HPS, and Highland Bike Shop Team Up To Help Student
When Dustin Fusco’s bike was stolen while filming an HHS sports game, HPS, HPD, and Highland Bike Shop stepped up to right the wrong.
While videotaping a Holyoke High sports game, student Dustin Fusco ’17 had his bicycle stolen. When school nurse Bennet told Holyoke High Resource Officer Manny Rivera about the incident, Officer Rivera decided he would do something about it.
Rivera knew the station had a collection of old bicycle and called Officer Matt Moriarty to find out if he could give one to Dustin. Together, the two HPS officers found a bike and they took it to local hardware shop Highland Bike Shop.
The officers discovered that Highland had sold Dustin the original bike – and much to the offers surprise the hardware store offered to upgrade the replacement bike for no charge!
Always willing to do her part to help a student in need, HHS guidance counselor Mrs. Nicole Horton purchased a bike lock for Dustin. On the morning of October 13, an unsuspecting Dustin was called down to the office where Officers Rivera and Moriarty presented him with his new bike and new bike lock! Dustin was taken aback at this unexpected act of kindness.
“Thank you to Officers Rivera, Moriarty, and Summers,” said Fusco. “What they did means a lot to me.”
This great act of kindness from a Holyoke-based small business, Holyoke Police Department, as well as school officials is a great example of Holyoke Highs traits.
