As the school year comes to a close, Holyoke High’s drama club is still hard at work preparing for its big annual performance.

The club has nearly tripled in size since last year, with students in all grades coming together to memorize their lines and do what they love: act!

English teacher Angela Sweeney, a former member of Holyoke High’s drama club, is now happily in charge.

The students have been working very hard on their production, working for several hours each day – even on April vacation.

“This year, the production will offer a shift from last year’s play, ‘Eurydice,’ by Sarah Ruhl, in that the plays have more realism and more – sometimes even slapstick – comedy,” said Sweeney, referring to the fact the drama club this year is doing three, one-act plays.

“Check Please,” by Jonathan Rand, “How to Kiss a Girl,” by Wade Bradford and Leslie Tanner, and “It’s not you, it’s me,” by Don Zolidis, will be performed on May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Holyoke High.

“The students have been working very hard on their production, working for several hours each day – even on April vacation,” Sweeney said, and she’s right.

The plays are about dating and relationships, with comical and entertaining twists, and when the curtain goes up for them, drama club participants will be sharing what they have enjoyed doing all year with the audience.

Tickets, $8, $5, for students, will be sold at the door.
