September 24, 2014
Joan Rivers’ funeral took place on Sunday the 7th of September, of this year at 81 years of age. Joan was a comedic icon and made many millions of people laugh, it is what she loved to do according to her only daughter Melissa who posted the following on Twitter after her mother had passed away on September 4: “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers.” She said what made her mother the happiest was making people laugh, it’s just what her mom loved to do.
Joan was also an actress, writer and producer and was a huge fashion icon that co-hosted the show Fashion Police aired by the E! Network.
The funeral took place at the Temple Emanu-El in New York City, and was attended by some of her closest family and friends: some were famous, but many were not. There was an exclusive guest list and fans were held back behind barricades.
Her funeral was everything she could’ve wanted and was nothing short of a big Hollywood affair. The funeral was attended by countless celebrities and was, of course, invitation only. One of the speakers that spoke on her behalf was Howard Stern, America’s Got Talent co-host, along with many others all wanting to remembering Rivers at her best. The actor Hugh Jackman preformed the Broadway hit “Quiet, There’s A Lady On Stage” and bagpipes closed out the funeral (credit: azcentral.com).
The funeral captured the essence of Joan Rivers in her purest form and gave some laughs. In short, it was exactly what the icon would have wanted.
