As we pack away our shorts and sandals, we break out the sweaters and boots. Fall, also know as sweater and boot season, is approaching quickly. So time to head to the mall or even the outlets to stock up on all the items you will need this coming season (because we all can’t afford designer clothing)! Like Ralph Lauren himself said, “Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you.”

The colors of Fall 2014 are Sangria, Aurora Red, Radiant Orchid, Sea Fog, Cypress, Bright Cobalt, Royal Blue, Aluminum, Cognac, and Misted Yellow. (For those who may not be up to date on their color names; Dark Purple/ Magenta, Dark Red/ Rusted Red, Light Grey, Olive Green, Dark Blues, Light Taupe/Brown, And a Dark Yellow.) Fall is a time of change, and the colors being worn are changing from bright pastels, to more earthy, darker colors. Mixing any of these colors with plaid or stripes won’t fail once the leaves start to change.

The essential items for any fall season are sweaters, scarves and boots; just like winter. Oversized sweaters are a must–and are usually very comfortable, especially knit sweaters. Adding a scarf of one of the ten colors listed above makes the sweater look casual. Jeans and colored pants always look good with sweaters, but trying a skirt and some tights underneath makes the look a little elegant.

As for footwear, Boots are priority—Combat Boots, Riding Boots, Hunter Rain Boots, LL Bean Duck Boots, etc. usually worn with high socks (see below image). Not only are boots acceptable in the fall, but so are ballet flats and obviously converse/ vans, which are acceptable 365 days a year.

Last but not least: The jacket. It’s chilly out so adding a jacket, whether it’s a leather jacket, a flannel, a blazer, a raincoat, or a parka, the outfit is completed. And the best part about fall fashion is that it can be worn all the way through winter!
