Hocus Pocus (1993)

Hocus Pocus has remained one of the most popular and iconic Halloween movies for more than twenty years since it first came out. The cast features actresses who are still working and well known in the world of movies today, Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler. It’s enjoyed by people of all ages every time the Halloween season rolls around, and will never become irrelevant. Hocus Pocus has always been by far my favorite Halloween movie.

My Rating: ***** (Five Stars)

Halloweentown (1998)

The premiere of Halloweentown on Disney Channel is highly anticipated every year by children, teenagers, and even young adults who grew up watching the series of Halloweentown movies. While everyone has a different opinion on which Halloweentown movie is the best out of the four, Bella Courchesne, a freshman at Holyoke High says the second movie is her favorite, “Halloweentown, especially Halloweentown 2, always brings back childhood memories for me.” Halloweentown is another one of my favorites, but as I grow up I do realize some of the cheesiness in that acting.

My Rating: **** (Four Stars)

Halloween (1978) Halloween has supplied generations with a classic Halloween costume; Michael Meyers. It perhaps may be one of the most iconic Halloween movies of all time as Michael Meyers appearance is recognized all over the world. Watching Halloween alone is defintely not recommended. Halloween is a classic that I’ve enjoyed over the years, as long as I’m with several people.

My Rating: **** (Four Stars)

The Exorcist (1973) The Exorcist is definitely more horrifying than the movies listed above, a young girl is possessed and two priests are her mother’s only hope in getting her daughter back. Due to the fact that it was filmed in the 70’s, the effects may not be up to our standards now, but it still continues to scare people every year. The Exorcist can be kind of a heavy movie for someone who isn’t into horror films.

My Rating: *** (Three Stars)

Ghostbusters (1984) Ghostbusters is a classic Halloween film, it incorporates fear as well as comedy. It is a much lighter movie than something like The Exorcist but has still remained iconic for nearly 30 years. If you need another to love Bill Murray, Ghostbusters is it. I think Ghostbusters starts out a little slow but gets more exciting as the film goes on.

My Rating: *** (Three Stars)
