Holyoke High at the 11th Annual High School Quiz Bowl

On Sunday, October 20th, members of Holyoke High’s trivia team attended the 11th Annual High School Quiz Bowl out in Boston, Massachusetts. The event is a preliminary in the High School Quiz Show competition, which features some of the brightest students competing against one another in a jeopardy-style trivia competition. The event is also held by WGBH itself, so has garnered an impressive amount of popularity over it’s many seasons. This year, members that attended the event included seniors Charlotte Brunette, Jordan Dudas, Melina Garcia, Jack Shea; junior Kara McGuiness; and sophomore Miranda Brunette. The Holyoke High team is excellently led by experienced advisors Mark Todd and Kevin Bechard, who have held the position for about a decade.
Soon the team will be moving on the more local As Schools Match Wits challenge, which features many of the great student minds of Western Massachusetts in another televised jeopardy-style competition. Holyoke will be attempting to get as far as they can in the competition this year, as the team has been able to win in years past, and it’s certainly attainable for them this year with what can be considered a veteran team of trivia enthusiasts.
Although the ASMW team already features many students from Holyoke High, on and off the television screen, new members are always encouraged to join the club for some after school trivia fun. Any student with a knack for trivia or a passion of the obscure would certainly fit in on the team and would be welcome among the already existing ranks of Holyoke High’s trivia stars.
