So as you might have heard from Nintendo, or even from some of my previous articles, the critically acclaimed Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is getting a sequel. Not only that, but it’s been stated that this sequel will most likely come out sometime this year. We don’t know the sequel’s real name, but we do have the placeholder title; Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. It’s been speculated that if Breath of the Wild 2 were to come out this year, it would most likely be released towards the end of 2021. However, there’s been a supposed leak that implies we might get this sequel a lot sooner.

Back in 2020, the release date for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory was leaked weeks before they were officially announced. This was done by some Australian retailer, and it seems like that very same retailer has done it once again. Their information states that Breath of the Wild 2, will come out sometime in the second quarter of 2021. While this is a bit vaguer than their previous report, this still paints a good picture for us. Splitting the year up into quarters would mean that the game would come out in April, May, or June. This would place Breath of the Wild 2’s release window in the first half of 2021, as opposed to the holiday season.

However, we haven’t heard any official word from Nintendo on a concrete release date. On February 17th, there was a Nintendo Direct that went over a ton of interesting gaming news, (Expect another article from me on the new Smash Bro DLC in the near future), including something new for Zelda’s 35th anniversary. This reveal however wasn’t Breath of the Wild 2 and was instead a Switch port of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It was stated by Zelda’s project manager, Eiji Aonuma, that while they couldn’t share any news on the sequel, they will have more to share later this year.

Notice how he said, “later” this year, not “towards the end” of this year. This means that this information could still come in the second quarter of 2021, and could even reveal the official release date of the game. This would line up perfectly with E3 2021, which is also in the second quarter of this year, and would make the perfect stage for Breath of the Wild 2 this June. While this is just mere speculation, we do know for sure that new info will be coming soon, and the chances that it’ll cover the game’s release date is far from impossible. But whatever the release date may be, it’s no surprise that Zelda fans everywhere will be on the edge of their seats for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
