New Brockhampton Album Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine

For quite some time, it felt as if the pop-rap band BROCKHAMPTON would never slow down. Their 2017 trio of SATURATION albums were quickly followed by 2018’s IRIDESCENCE and also 2019’s GINGER. Around this time last year there have been singles that have dropped one being Sugar featuring Dua lipa. Yet aside from the singles the band has been under the radar.

All until a few weeks ago when the band put out the killer single BUZZCUT featuring Danny Brown while announcing the new album, ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE.  The album was dropped on April 9th, 2021 but fans have already hopped onto all tracks and haven’t stopped. This new album features guest spots from A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Charlie Wilson, and plenty more.

The boys in the band found themselves physically further apart since leaving the home they all first shared in Los Angeles in 2016, but the distance only served as a testament to how strong their bond was as both colleagues and brothers. ROADRUNNER narrates the highs and lows of the former self-identified boy band as they grappled with the weight of isolation, identity and unexpected personal loss, almost reassembling in order to find “the light”. The group opened themselves up to a wider range of collaborators this time around, and even had member Jabari Manwa, who regularly acts as an in-house producer, step out of his comfort zone and enter the realm as a vocalist and performer. The group has stepped out refreshed and more self-assured than ever, and if it’s true that ROADRUNNER and its followup album are the first two projects BROCKHAMPTON will ever release, they’re sure to end things on a high note.
