Dividing Divisions
What’s the deal with the current standing of the Purple Knights?
There has been a rumor circulating around Holyoke High that our football team dropped down a division. A division is made up of certain teams that are grouped together and play each other. When a team drops a division, it is assumed that they are moved because of their ability.
When asked, Melanie Martin, the Athletic Director of Holyoke High School, replied that it was a misconception. The idea of the football team getting moved down because of previous records is false. “The state divisions are based on the male enrolment in your school,” Martin Added. A lot of people were led to believe we dropped a division when they realized our football team no longer plays South Hadley. Playing South Hadley never had anything to do with the division were in. Our independent game this year was against Agawam. Lastly Martin said that there is “A new realignment every four years”.
The football team is still right where they have always been: in Division 1.
