Join Upward Bound!

The Upward Bound program at Holyoke High School provides students with guidance through the transition from high school to college.

Want to go to college, but don’t know how to go about the process? Apply to NMH Upward Bound!

The NMH Upward Bound program is now accepting 9th grade students at Holyoke High interested in the program.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides skills and motivation to first generation and low-income students so they can achieve their dreams of going to college. As participants of this program, students commit to after school meetings, weekly tutoring sessions, and enrichment classes, which help prepare students get ready for the college process.

College visits are done on school vacations and students are required to spend six weeks each summer until senior year at a rigorous summer academy, where students spend the summers preparing academically for the upcoming school year.

This experience gives students the opportunity to live in a college-like environment and prepare for the rigor of college. As a result, students feel ready to meet many challenges and expectations that await living away from home during college.

Only students who receive passes during the school day are expected to attend the information session on Wednesday, November 16th during the Advisory block at the Holyoke High Auditorium.

Interested students and parents/guardians are welcome to join the information sessions to hear more in detail about the requirements, benefits, and expectations of the programs on Thursday, November 17th at 6:00 P.M. in the auditorium.

Students who participate in the free program and graduate have a high rate of college acceptances with good financial aid packages, so don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Applications are available in the guidance office, the Upward Bound office in the cafeteria, and online at: http://www.nmhschool.upward-bound-application or contact Ana Almedia at (413)-498-3522 for more information.
