Another Hit Musical From HHS
Holyoke High’s music departments knocks another show out of the park with this year’s production: Shrek: The Musical!
The Holyoke High Music Department is back at it again with another incredible musical!
This year, the hard working cast and crew pulled off Shrek: The Musical, a stage adaptation of the popular 2001 animated comedy starring Mike Myers.
On both opening night (Thursday, March 31) and the following night (Friday, April 1) the show brought so much joy to everyone in the audience! From Shrek, the loveable green ogre played by Jonathan Dochod ‘16 “scaring” everyone in his way to Donkey, the comic relief side-kick played hilariously by Darian Gonzalez ‘17.
The crew nailed the little things that make the Shrek world of Duloc come to life: little touches like Gingy (Samantha Monsalve ‘16) telling Lord Farquaad (Josh Ortiz ‘16) that the muffin man who lives on Drury Lane knew about Princess Fiona (Emma Price ‘16).
A big hit was the scene where Donkey found his true love, the “big big girl” – also known as the dragon. The giant pink dragon came on the stage and stole the show!
Although Shrek is mainly a comedy, there is a solid love story that was brought to life by the two leads Dochod and Price. You can really feel they are Shrek and Fiona as the romance between them blossoms.
Both the cast and crew put so much hard work and dedication to this musical and it is most definitely shown on stage. Even if you didn’t catch the opening night of this fairytale show there is still plenty of time to “Let your freak flag fly!” with one final matinee show Sunday, April 3 at 2 pm! Don’t miss your chance to see this amazing and hilarious show!
