The former Holyoke/South Hadley hockey team is now only South Hadley. Two years ago, Holyoke, South Hadley, and Granby students all played on the same team sporting Holyoke High purple. In 2011 this co-op team won the division IIIA state championship under the HHS banner.

Last year, the team switched to South Hadley uniforms because South Hadley had more hockey players on the team. This year the freshman at Holyoke high are no longer allowed to play for the team because the co-op ended. Although the players that were already on the team from Holyoke are still allowed to play for the South Hadley team, future Holyoke High students may potentially not be able to take part in a hockey program for the winter sports season. Captain of the hockey team senior Ben Kravetz says, “The co-op has been going swell, we’ve been like this since my freshmen year so I don’t really know any different. South Hadley makes up the core of the team [and] Holyoke and Granby add important contributing factors to the team.”

Their first game is December 18th, 2013 against Westfield who won states last year but the team is looking forward to hopefully coming out with the win. Get out and support the team while Holyoke is still a part of it.
