Holyoke High School’s varsity field hockey captain Katie Keane has scored her 100th career point this season! She led the team to victory by scoring the first two goals against Southwick on September 20th on our home field. She ended the game with an assist to score the last goal leaving her with 101 points and lots more to come towards the end of the field hockey team’s season.

Katie has been a phenomenal player throughout her high school career. She placed second in Western Mass for goals scored by only her sophomore year.“I hope my friends and family come to the Southwick game to support the team,” Katie said prior to the big game. Her teammates were also hoping for a big crowd.

The team was overjoyed to see all the fans including family, fellow students, and hearing the football boys cheer while walking to the locker room after practice. Holyoke always has outstanding support for events such as this, and this game was certainly no exception.

Thirteen minutes into the game, Holyoke field hockey had the ball in Southwick’s circle. Kassidy Lawrence (‘18) sweeps the ball from the baseline to stroke. Katie Keane gets ahold of the ball and lifts it over Southwick’s defenders and past their goalie. This play led Kassidy to her 50th career point and Katie to her 100th. Katie’s name will be on the 100th point club banner once her senior year season ends.

After putting up a great fight against Southwick with a 3-0 win, the team congratulated Katie with posters and her family brought her a banner and flowers

“She worked really hard for this. She’s been working up to this point ever since Katelynn Leclerc scored hers,” said Katie’s mom Patricia Keane.

“Katie’s made me so proud throughout all her four years,” said Katie’s father Timothy Keane. “She’s very lucky to play with this team.”

Katie also plans on playing field hockey in college. She will continue her career and maybe score another 100 points her next four years. The school, her family, and the team are all very proud of Katie Keane and her accomplishments this season.
