Second Annual Students vs. Teachers Basketball Game Set For March 16
Stinging from their loss in the nail-biter last year, the students hope to rebound and take it home this year.
To ring in St. Patrick’s Day, the 2nd annual Student vs. Teachers basketball game will be held at Holyoke High School on Friday, March 16 at 2pm.
“Last year’s student vs. teachers basketball game was really fun! It was great to see the whole school brought together and it was overall such a positive experience,” said Ms.Lafond, a Physical Education and Health teacher who played on the teachers’ team last year, “I’m excited to play again this year.”
Ms.Lafond is also one of the coordinators of the event along with Director of Climate and Culture Mr. Melendez.
Interested seniors who don’t play basketball for the varsity high school teams play against teachers and faculty, with participants ranging from math teachers, to gym teachers, to janitors, among others. Also, a HHS student DJs the event to get the audience and players all riled up and keep the energy high.
Last year the game was fairly close the entire game but the teachers managed to pull through and get the win within the last few minutes, winning 46-44. Mr. Athas made a layup buzzer-beater to win the game. This year the students look to bounce back and get revenge on the teachers.
“We’re coming on to the court with an undefeated record,” said Mr.Belanger, math teacher and member of last years winning teachers’ team, “so I’ve been making sure that I’ve been studying up on the playbook reviewing all the videos from last year and the year before so that we’re ready…we’re ready to win.”
Students and faculty alike are looking forward to this exciting and fun-filled game and look forward to seeing whether the teachers will be able to hold their title or whether the students will manage to get the win this year!
