1989 Review
Taylor Swift’s newest album shows the singer has matured beyond her kiddy image.
On the 27th of October, Taylor Swift released her fifth studio album, 1989. A week later, it was named the first platinum album of the year 2014, selling over 1.287 million copies within the first week! In an interview with US Weekly, Swift says, “I’m living life on my own terms now.” 1989 shows a new side of Taylor that had never been seen before. The album’s style is 80’s pop, a lot more energetic and a change from Taylor’s usual emotional country self.
1989 featured sixteen songs, three singles, two of which made #1 on the charts for a couple of weeks. “Shake it off” was the first, and Taylor performed it at the VMA’s on August 24th at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. “Blank Space” which remains #1 on iTunes right now for top song and music video, sold 155,000 copies prior t the release of the album. Taylor has also been working on NBC’s show, The Voice. Taylor seems to be very busy doing her own thing, and being know for having a lot of boyfriends and some of her songs being emotionally unstable, she seems to be doing good without a boy in her life. She has close friends such as Lorde, Selena Gomez, and Lena Dunham by her side.
Although there is less whining on this album, Taylor has to make a scene somewhere. She had all of her music pulled from Spotify, because she claims “artists should value their art and make sure that people are paying enough money for it.” (Business Insider) Does Taylor swift really believe that we are not paying enough for her music? One song on iTunes costs $1.29, the same price as a pack of gum. It is ridiculousness. She’s probably made more money this year alone, than I will make in my lifetime.
On a better note, Taylor Swift received the first ever Dick Clark Award of Excellence at the 2014 American Music Awards and she’s appearing on covers of Lucky Magazine and ASOS Magazine. On December 9th, Taylor performed at The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show along side her best friends Karlie Kloss & Lily Aldridge. Rumors were that Taylor also had a Victoria’s Secret angel fired because she simply did not like her. Swift certainly is very busy weeks after the release of 1989. Tickets are on sale now for The 1989 World Tour. She is set to play at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA July 24th and 25th.
