Was Super Bowl XLIX one of the best ever?

Super Bowl XLIX Recap

Super Bowl XLIX started off slow, but it picked up quickly into one of the greatest Super Bowl of all time.

At the beginning of the second quarter, it was  tied at 0-0 until the Patriots struck first with an 11 yd. Brandon Lafell touchdown pass from Tom Brady. With two minutes left in the half, Marshawn Lynch punched it in with a 3 yd. run which tied it all up. The Patriots got the ball back and marched down the field ending the drive with a 22 yd. touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski.

But with time expiring, the Seahawks weren’t going to give up. They tied it all up again with a Russell Wilson touchdown pass to Chris Matthews.

Come halftime, it was tied at 14-14. The Seattle Seahawks started off with the ball in the third quarter and settled with a field goal. With the momentum clearly on Seattle side, Bobby Wagner stepped in front of Gronk to make it Brady’s second interception of the night. Wagner returned it to the Seattle 35 yd. line. The Seahawks later scored with another Russell Wilson touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin, putting Seattle up, 24-14.

The Patriots needed to bounce back after getting shutout in the third quarter, and that’s what they did. With 7:55 left in the fourth quarter, Tom Brady hit Danny Amendola in the back of the end zone, which made Brady pass Joe Montana for the most touchdown passes in Super Bowl History. The Patriots were still down by three, but they made a huge defensive got the ball back right away after the Amendola touchdown. Tom Brady through his four and finale touchdown pass of the night to Julian Edelman and the Pats had the lead back with a 28-24 score. Seattle still had two minutes. Russell Wilson took a shot down field to Jermaine Kearse. At first, Malcolm Butler made a great play and looked like he brook up the pass, but when the ball was coming back down Kearse was right under it and it bubbled around for a little. It eventually ended up in Kearse hands and the Seahawks had the ball at the five yard line. Marshawn Lynch was given the ball on first and goal and ran it to the one yard line. On the next play Seattle decided to throw an inside slant. Wilson was targeting Ricardo Lockette on the play, but when he went for the ball Malcolm Butler jumped in front and got his first ever interception. Tom Brady and the Patriots offense went back on the field and ran the clock out in victory formation.

The New England Patriots and Tom Brady won their fourth Super Bowl, and Brady went in to win MVP for his third time.
