Field Hockey Haunts Holyoke
If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Holyoke field hockey has been spooking families in their latest fundraiser.
Holyoke High School’s field hockey team is having spook-tacular fundraiser. For $25, you can get four friendly ghosts to come “haunt” your house for the day. This fundraiser is a different take on the Purple Flamingos (or “flocking”) the team had last year and the ghosts are already a hit.
The Holyoke High school field hockey team (4-0) are at the top of their division. Last year, after their flamingo fundraiser, they made enough funds to purchase new varsity uniforms, jackets, and sweatpants: a huge accomplishment. “As there is no booster club for scholarships or anything for Holyoke field hockey, we rely on fundraising,” says varsity field hockey player, Isabella Courchesne ‘18.
On September 12, the team kicked off the fundraiser by visiting the three mayoral candidates, as well as school principal Mr. Sullivan.
The ghosts are three feet tall, have googly eyes and a purple ribbon. The ghosts are planted between 7-9pm and get picked up the next day around the same time. Each set of ghosts comes with a sign and an application to send them to another house for a donation of $25. Not only do all the donations go directly to the team, but they are the ones who created, made, and move the ghosts each night. “It gives us a better opportunity to raise money and it brings us closer together as a team,” says JV player, Yesenia Lorenzo ’18.
If you are interested in “haunting” someone, contact a field hockey player for more information. The fundraiser lasts until the end of October.
