December 2015
Hello all,
Happy December! The Herald is in full holiday mode, with all the seasonal tunes blaring since coming back from Thanksgiving break. It is hard to believe that the end of 2015 nears, as does my personal favorite holiday- Christmas! In my home, Wigilia, the Christmas Eve dinner, is a bigger celebration than Christmas itself, as my family breaks oplatek, sing kolendy, and eat lots of pierogi.
‘Tis the season and even our website has been decked out to celebrate, but make sure you haven’t missed out on the recent happenings at the high school.
Our pep rally certainly lived up to its name with its spirit– check out photos of the Spirit Court, football team, and senior skit here. The Herald was able to snag an exclusive interview with two Holyoke football captains before the big game and the pep rally. This year’s Thanksgiving Day game between Holyoke and Chicopee was the 99th match-up, and The Herald has exclusive game day photos of the Knights’ win here.
The day after Thanksgiving marks yet another tradition for Holyoke, with the Holyoke Guild. See photos of the freshman-sophomore dance here. The Herald‘s photography team was also on hand to take photos of the junior-senior prom.
The Drama Club has been working hard to produce its very own original show! Our staffer and drama club member Ana Diaz gave us all a preview to the play that runs from December 4th to 5th, and Catherine Pater sat down to interview the two masterminds behind the play in our podcast.
Last but certainly not least, Holyoke Cross-Country was able to, for the first time since the championship meet’s founding, win Western Mass. Read about the accomplishment here, and also check out Marty Keane‘s December Spotlight article on the coach who helped make it happen, Dave Reinhart.
That’s all for now,
Melanie
