The Holyoke Police Department spent the month of January attempting to grow the most manliest mustache.

Manuary is a yearly fundraiser ran by the Holyoke  Police Department that has been in practice for years. During “Manuary,” police officers in the community come together for a good cause and try to see which of them can grow the best mustache. In order to participate, men have to pay $20 for a mustache, $25 for a goatee, and $30 for a beard.

Each year, the money raised is donated to a local veterans group or an association that helps our veterans.

“Our veterans did there part and now it’s time we do ours,” said Captain Matthew Moriarty. “We are taking the opportunity to help those in need in our population. We want our veterans to know that the blue is covering the six of the green.”

Manuary is a great event every year. Donations from both the Blessed Sacrament School 8th grade class and the community were accepted.

At the “End of Manuary” event held at JP’s this on Friday, February 3, $2,186 was raised.

This year, the money raised was donated to Homeward Vets. Homeward Vets is an association ran out of Southampton that helps homeless veterans both be put into living arrangements and provides them with free furniture.

The Holyoke Police Department was happy to donate all the money raised for such a great cause and they know the money will help a lot.
