Football Playoff Preview: Holyoke vs. Minnechaug
Finn Lubold previews the knights upcoming playoff game against Minnechaug this Friday.
The Holyoke Knights (6-2) will face off in their first playoff game since 2015 this Friday when they take on Minnechaug (5-3). The Knights are coming off another dominant win over Chicopee Comp and three consecutive strong performances on both sides of the ball. Holyoke looks to keep their aggressive game up.
A dominant force for the Knights is starting running back Giovanni Carrasquillo. He had 878 rushing yards in the regular season and averaged for 110 yards per game. Carrasquillo says he wants to keep his downhill rushing style in effect on Friday.
“All of our backs must stay confident and believe that every time we touch the ball that we are going for 6,” Carrasquillo said. “We have to be patient, find the hole and go and do our jobs.”
The backfield seems to be ready to try and run through Chaug’s defense.
Holyoke’s defense has been on fire and they want to stay that way. They forced 5 turnovers last week at Comp and had 11 helmets to the ball on almost every play.
“We need to be stingy up front, play physical and get 11 helmets to the ball,” said Knights lockdown-corner, Jose Luciano. “That will create turnovers and give our offense opportunity to put up numbers.”
The Knights will use their defensive motto that is repeatedly said by the coaches at practice: “Last one to the ball doesn’t care!” It seems the Knights really do care as all eleven guys pursue to the ball on most plays.
