This week the Knights go to battle against the Chicopee High School Pacers at their first home game.

The Friday Night Lights game marks the 102nd time these rivals will meet up. This game’s sure to be an exciting one, and is promised to be played with passion from both teams at Gilligan Field.

Holyoke is planning on giving it their all on the field, as they’re coming off of a win from last week and hope to continue that streak. Last Friday night’s game against Putnam was very close but Holyoke’s defense held it together and their offense found their groove in the nick of time, allowing them to catch the win with a final score of 22-20.

Last week Kenny Williams’19 played an important part on the defense, setting the edge as the right side linebacker, and racking up 5 tackles – 3 of them for a loss. Williams feels that the team can play tough and be successful in this game against Chicopee if they can clean up their mistakes and make, “better reads.”

When asked about how the defense is looking for this week and their plans to get the ball back to the offense, Williams said, “ We just need to keep doing what we’re doing and stay focused.”

Quarterback Gabriel Fernandez ’20, got right to the point about what he believes needs to be cleaned up in order to gain an advantage over Chicopee.

“To have a better performance, we need to keep  turnovers to a minimum. We’ve watched our film and hopefully learned from our mistakes. To win, we need to finish in the red zone,” he said.

We hope that the football team’s hard work over this past week will pay off and we wish them goodluck in this week’s game!
