You may have seen the new mural in progress along the main hallway by the auditorium. Mr. William Greaney, the art teacher in room 102, is attempting to spruce up the school by painting new murals for the teachers. He believes that working with other teachers and having students paint murals that reflect the different topics and aspects to collaborate and help visual learners and other students who learn better using other methods of learning. The themes of the murals will be cross disciplinary: they will reflect topics in English, Science, and other subjects. Mr. Greaney thinks using these visual aids to supplement what happens in the classroom is a good idea because, “It is a good way to introduce other students into areas they might not be normally interested in,” he says.

Mr. Greaney’s plan for the English wing is to paint select Shakespearean characters and implement some student’s faces into the picture. The people who will be painting the murals are his Draw & Paint II and III along with his Design II & III. Each of the planned murals will take different amounts of time depending on the size. The time frame for these mural can range from a few weeks to an entire year.
Last year, the seniors of the class of 2013 started painting one of the murals involving the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz mural will be an extremely interesting one: it will be split up into panels and each panel will either be colored or in black and white. When you walk down the hallway one way, it will be in all black and white, if you turn around and walk down the other way, it will be in color. This is just one of the many creative touches that shows adding art to the school will make the day more interesting for students and staff alike.
