Self Care

Self+Care

Jay Whitlock, Herald Staff

Taking care of yourself can become difficult when life gets busy. In contrast, self-care has plenty of mental health benefits. Do not feel guilty about taking a little time for yourself. Your health shouldn’t be viewed as selfish. When you are at your healthiest, you can assist others and yourself more effectively.

A person’s self-care practices vary depending on the circumstances and can vary from day to day. In order to achieve balance in your life, you will have to find activities that appeal to you. Listed below are some ideas for getting started, and keep in mind that you can combine these activities as well.

Even Small Steps Matter

  • Wash your face, take a shower if you can
  • Put on clean, comfortable clothes
  • Eat something and drink water

Relax

  • Play video games
  • Do a face mask
  • Listen to music
  • Read, watch your favorite shows or movies and try not to feel guilty about not being productive

Taking care of yourself means listening deeply to your own body, carefully observing the thoughts that are going through your head and challenging your beliefs and behaviors when things are out of alignment in your life. Physical and mental wellbeing are both enhanced by these activities!
